The “ Etang Cistude” site

Commune de Saint-Michel-en-Brenne

Equipped with one large and one small hide, as well as a blind and a boardwalk over a water lily pond, this part of the Reserve plays an important role in public awareness. The operation of its opening times is linked to that of the “Maison de la Nature et de la Réserve”.

Various parts of the lake and its surrounds are of interest :

First the passage on the boardwalk; in the summer it gives the visitor the opportunity of seeing several species of dragonflies, some of which are particularly rare, green frogs and water lilies.

Then the hedged path takes visitors to the hides that open their observation slots onto the lake, its Purple Herons, its Black-headed Gulls, and of course, its European Pond Tortoises.

Since 2016 a new, small private hide has been built overlooking the lake’s heronry. It is open by reservation and a small payment between April and August. It is particular use for photographers. For more informations, click here.
